There are currently four chapters in Johor Bahru, namely JB City Centre Chapter, JB Pelangi Chapter, JB Chinese Perling Chapter and JB Chinese Mount Austin Chapter.

The oldest chapter is JB City Centre Chapter. It started on July 1988 when Khoo Chock Seang who was posted to head a branch of a bank shared the FGBMF vision with a group of brothers over dinner.

Regular Friday meetings were held in the office of a legal firm. The chapter also started the first Festival of Praise in April 1989 and through this event united scores of churches together to worship and praise. Today the chapter meets in JB City Square every Friday.

The second JB chapter (JB Pelangi Chapter) was started in July 1995 with only 3 members. The chapter under the leadership of Julian Ma held their first banquet with Rev Oh Beng Kee. About 30 people came to know the Lord that night. The chapter continues to grow and now meets weekly at Menara Pelangi in a legal firm and is currently under the leadership of Soong Kok Tiong.

The Asian Chinese Convention 2000 gave birth to the first Chinese chapter in Johor Bahru. Having tasted the dynamism of the Holy Spirit, a group of Chinese-speaking brothers spearheaded by Alfred Ng started the JB Chinese Perling chapter in July 2001. The enthusiasm and warmness of the brothers quickly attracted brothers from other denominations to join the chapter. Many banquets - with speakers like Rev Oh Beng Kee, Tan Koon Swan and Ps Peter Lim - were held with successful results. Bene Chian now heads this chapter.

The growth of the JB Perling chapter necessitates the formation of another Chinese-speaking chapter - JB Chinese Mount Austin chapter. The chapter started its meeting in January 2002 in a cabin of one of the members. Alfred Ng leads this faithful group of brothers.

The zeal of the brothers can be seen in their desire to share the gospel to their non-Christian friends. Together with the brothers from KL, they had travelled to various towns to share their testimonies and will continue to do so when invited.

At the local front, the Happy Hour meeting was started in October 2001. This is a monthly meeting held at Eden Garden Hotel on every first Monday of the month. Several brothers will share their testimonies. Non-Christian men are invited for this occasion. Over the last few months, many had come to know the Lord through these meetings.

The close rapport between the local chapters with the churches is a key factor in the growth of the chapters. Trust is built as a result of this rapport. Often, FGBMF brothers are called upon to assist in JB-citywide Christian campaigns.

Going forward, we realize the chapters must continue to be watchful. Growth must not be seen from the quantitative perspective but also in the quality of our relationship with God. It must also be seen from the perspective of character development of the members so that we can truly be salt and light for Christ in a darkened world.
