Over the years, FGBMF Malaysia has often
been the fellowship place of Christian leaders. Therefore, it comes as no
surprise to see many of them now serving as pastors, elders, deacons and
in other leadership positions in churches all over the country. One such
leader is Pastor Bernard Ong (pastor of Hosanna Praise Assembly, Subang
Jaya) whom the FLAME. interviewed recently.
Q: Pastor Bernard, how did you get
involved with the FGBMF in its early years?
A: One thing led to another. Initially, I
was very active with the Gideons, working together with Bro Liau Eng Siong,
Ang Chui Lai, Ang Chui Cheng and Philip Yeoh. Later, through them, I was
led to the Abundant Life Centre ministry where I came into fellowship with
FGBMF brothers like Dr Peter Tong, Dr Joy Seevaratnam, Michael Cheng, Paul
Chew, the late J S Devaraj, Timothy Phua, Dr Luke Leow and Dato Khoo Kay
Peng. My constant fellowshipping with them gave me tremendous spiritual
encouragement.
Q: What was the spiritual climate
then?
A: At that time, the FGBMF brothers were
very fervent and earnest in their prayers especially when there was a need
to pray for those who were sick. They were also always eager to pray for
everyone to be baptised in the Holy Spirit.
Q: Would you say that you have
attained utmost satisfaction after being filled with the Holy Spirit?
A: I came to know the Lord in 1965 and my
life was truly transformed after I was spirit-filled in 1966. That joy is
beyond description even till today.
Q: You must have some fond memories of
FGBMF Malaysia. Would you kindly share some of them?
A: My fond memories of the FGBMF had been
the times I saw my fellow brothers regularly and earnestly bringing their
unsaved friends to the lunch hour FGBMF meetings. I've also had the
privilege of witnessing souls saved, the sick healed and delivered and
people being baptised in the Holy Spirit.
Q: What are your views on FGBMF's
progress in recent years?
A: Truly it is the work of the Holy
Spirit as I have noticed that the FGBMF has grown tremendously in terms of
members and chapters. The Chinese work is awesome.
Q: What is it that you miss most on
leaving FGBMF to serve in the church?
A: The warm fellowship and constant
encouragement from the FGBMF leadership.
Q: What words of advice would you give
to the current FGBMF members?
A: As we press on, may we also lift up
those who are weak in spirit towards the ministry that the Lord has called
us into especially towards soul winning, healing and deliverance and the
joy of the fullness of the Holy Spirit. |
