An Interview...

Over the years, FGBMF Malaysia has often been the fellowship place of Christian leaders. Many are now serving as pastors, elders, deacons and other leadership positions. One such leader is Pastor Ang Chui Cheng (co-Founder and Pastor of River of Life Sanctuary [Sri Hartamas, KL] whom the FLAME interviewed recently.

Q: Pastor Chui Cheng, may I know what led you and how you were involved in the early days of FGBMF?

A: My involvement was through the encouragement of Dr Abraham Tong whom God had used so powerfully in getting many people saved, healed and renewed. I was one of those, later baptised in the Holy Spirit and changed my spiritual being. Seeing the fruit of the FGBMF ministry, I decided to offer my services in music and lead -worship to the Lord, beginning at the 'clinic meetings', to the old MCA building and later at the AIA Building.

Q: Can you compare the spiritual climate then and now?

A: Those days we did not have the electronic instruments. We were contented with an accordion and the guitar played by Michael Cheng. Later a piano was used and as the number grew, more musicians came forward to help. Though it was only basic music, the Lord moved mightily and prophetically in the area of healing and deliverance. The lyrics were focussed only on the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, Lord, Life-giver, Healer and Restorer. I believe this is the key to anointed worship which Jesus wants to inhabit.

Q: Would you say you have attained utmost satisfaction when filled with the Holy Spirit?

A: Holy Spirit baptism liberated me from my timidity and shyness. It gave me a newer understanding of God's Word and boldness to pray even in group. I was able to lead worship at big meetings which in the past I never even dreamt anything like that. It was the Spirit of the Lord that enabled me. Truly, filled with the Holy Spirit led me to serve the Lord with greater zeal and joy.

Q: You certainly have fond memories of FGBMF Malaysia. Would you kindly share them with us?

A: I remembered looking forward to the chapter meetings for personal revival. Also the zeal, commitment and humility of the FGBMF leadership taught me many things. They had sacrificed much and were truly an example for me to learn from them. Through the FGBMF ministry, many Christians were re-fired and today many are serving the Lord in various capacities.

Q: What are your views on FGBMF's progress over the recent years?

A: The new generation of leaders have the potential to reach out to many more. Businesses have increased manifold and there are still quite a number of people in the marketplace who have yet to know the Lord. The opportunities are many and I pray the current leadership will continue to press on. The turnout at the annual conventions have been good and encouraging.

Q: Lastly, what would be your passing words to the current FGBMF members?

Now that I am older and have learnt many things, I wish to pass on to the new generation of FGBMF members to remember the early Christians … they were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching, and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer (Acts 2:42).
