Expanding Leadership - New Blood
By Dr Stephen Goh, National Secretary

< Previous, > Next

After many months of concerted deliberations and fervent prayers, the current National Board consisting of three members, will henceforth be known as the Governing Council. The 'old guards' or more fondly referred to as the three wise 'old men' of the Governing Council will continue to be in the National Board together with seven other new members bringing its strength to a total of ten. The new inclusions are as a result of the mentoring process that would prepare them for a smooth change of the guards in the future. The National Board, which in addition to the provision of continuity in the leadership, now includes regional directors who are of younger age.

FGBMF Malaysia has since its inception been run by not more than three directors. Past directors include Bro. Khong Kim Kong who emigrated to Canada in 1978 and two of the most faithful servants of the FGBMF who have gone to be with the Lord, namely Dr J S Devaraj, the first National Secretary, in 1999, and Bro. Timothy Phua, the first National Treasurer, in 2004. Since 2000 the directors of the National Board comprised the two founding fathers, Dr Abraham Peter Tong (National President) and Bro Lee Gee Koon (National Treasurer) who were in the forefront of the charismatic revival in the late 1970's and Dr Stephen Goh, the second National Secretary who has been associated with the FGBMF since 1985.

The new set up will make use of the experience and wisdom of the three leaders while the inclusion of the younger leaders on a mentoring partnership would pave the way for new ideas and directions in the new millennium. The additional leaders who have been brought in are primarily to shape the activities and policies at the National level while the Governing Council will oversee spiritual matters. The final approving authority for all co-workers of the fellowship will still rest on the recommendations of the National Board. The larger composition is also to accommodate future expansion of the non-English work in the FGBMF which has given birth to many Chinese chapters especially after the two successful Asian Conventions in 2000 and 2001.

To God Be The Glory.
