Chapter Watch - KL Bangsar Baru Chapter
By Oo Chin Lee (President, KL Bangsar Baru Chapter)

When one mentions Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur, mostly people, will associate the neighbourhood with the bright lights of the entertainment areas in and around Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur. It has often been labelled as "the happening" place!

The idea of fun and frolic comes to the mind of many. By KL standards, Bangsar has always reflected the upper middle class neighbourhood and a sought after address as the "who is who in Kuala Lumpur" visits Bangsar.

However not many realize that in the midst of the hustle & bustle of the eateries & pubs, exists a small group of fervent Christians who have been the salt and the light of this "much talked" about neighbourhood. These men fervently pray for the neighbourhood for both salvation and that the light of Jesus Christ will prevail over the forces of darkness in Bangsar.

This small but aggressive chapter of the FGBMF has ventured out to touch lives of the people not only in Bangsar but also in and around Kuala Lumpur. Its membership is from the saints who work in Seri Petaling, Selayang, Subang, Sungei Buloh and of course, the die-hards from Bangsar.

The Chapter also organizes mission trips and has been used by the Lord in its blessing to the Christians who meet in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. The Chapter together with its 'sister' chapter (PJ Section 8 Chapter under Bro. Kenneth Teo) recently organized two trips to Kuala Kangsar (see Local Mission column) and assisted them to raise sufficient funds for the Christian Cemetery Association, Kuala Kangsar. The second trip witnessed the unity of 17 Churches from different denominations gathering together in the name of the Lord to organize and host a "Thanksgiving" dinner which was attended by at least 500 people!

Thank God for a good foundation and structure laid by our immediate past president (Bapak Anthony Leong); we now have a Bible discussion session for its members every Friday at 12.15 pm. The members also meet to pray on a regular basis on Wednesdays. With the advent of the new leadership, the Chapter is now embarking on a "Financial Freedom" series for the first quarter of 2004 and has invited various Christian businessmen to share on this subject for its members.

May God also bless our activities for 2004, which include a feeding-the-poor program at Petaling Street and more short term missions. Our aim is not to double our weekly attendance but to assist our members to gain spiritual maturity for the market place ministry.
