An Interview...

Over the years, FGBMF Malaysia has often been the fellowship place of Christian leaders. Many are now serving as pastors, elders, deacons and other leadership positions. One such leader is Bro. Khong Kim Kong (a co-Founder and now resides at Vancouver, Canada] whom the FLAME interviewed recently.

Q: Bro. Kim Kong, may I know what led you and how you were involved in the early days of FGBMF?

A: My involvement with FGBMF in the early days was through our Bro. Abraham Peter Tong who, when filled with the Spirit, started a lunch hour prayer and worship meeting at his medical clinic in Jalan Ampang. Soon after, I was also filled with the Spirit in one of the meetings. Later on, the lunch hour meeting was relocated to the Abundant Life Centre a few shops away from the clinic in Jalan Ampang. I became fully involved in FGB activities after the leadership decided to form an FGBMF chapter in Kuala Lumpur as a society under the Societies Act.

In the early days, we were very fervent in organizing ministry teams, the sponsoring of well-known foreign speakers to speak at our banquet meetings. In this respect, I was very blessed as I was then the executive director of the Ming Court Hotel in Jalan Ampang. In that capacity, I was able to offer very attractive banquet rates to FGB to hold the monthly KL Chapter banquet meetings there. This venue had resulted in bringing the full gospel message to a large segment of the business community in KL. As the result of these banquet meetings, many businessmen had come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

Q: Would you say you have attained utmost satisfaction when filled with the Holy Spirit?

A: The infilling of the Holy Spirit is very important in our Christian life because the Holy Spirit not only gives us spiritual gifts but also the boldness to witness and testify to the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ to other businessmen who do not know the Lord.

Q: You certainly have fond memories of FGBMF Malaysia. Would you kindly share them with us?

A: The fondest memory I had was my involvement with other Board Members to transform the FGB organization from one chapter registered under the Societies Act into a multi-chapter organization under the present non-profit limited company when that small window of opportunity was opened to us. The present structure had enabled FGB to set up branches throughout the country without hindrance and as the Lord leads the leadership to do so.

Q: What are your views on FGBMF's progress over the recent years?

A: Over the years, I am glad to say that FGBF has grown from strength to strength guided by the Holy Spirit, and without any foreign help or involvement. What FGB has today is fully home-grown and developed ministry through the dedication of every FGB member.

Q: Lastly, what would be your passing words to the current FGBMF members?

A: I do miss the fellowship of our FGB members, the testimonies at lunch hour and banquet meetings in KL, as the FGBMFI in Vancouver Canada is not very active and do not have the many chapters, and lunch time and banquet meetings.

I feel very encouraged every time I come back to visit KL and have fellowship with our Board members at MUI Plaza.

My advice to our brothers in FGBMF is to continue with the vision and the good work you have done in the furtherance of God's kingdom through the FGB ….. fight a good fight of faith; lay hold on eternal life and finally, to have a good name is better than great riches and silver or gold.
