FGBMF Malaysia has been the
birthplace of Christian leaders. Many FGBMF brothers are now serving as
pastors, elders, deacons and various leadership positions in churches and
other ministries. One such person is former Field Representative Bro.
Wiman Chew who is now serving in the Derek Prince Ministries, New Zealand.
The FLAME interviewed Bro. Wiman recently.
Q: Bro Wiman, what led
you to the FGBMF and how were you involved in it the early days?
At that time, I had just
accepted Christ into my life. I was quite keen to know more about
Christianity and needed the fellowship of believers. FGB was a convenient
environment. The brothers were warm and genuine in reaching out to me. My
office was available for FGB meetings and as these grew, I was roped in to
help. I was also involved in the incorporation of FGB as a corporate
identity.
Q: Can you compare the
spiritual climate then and now?
We were feeling the waters.
The Lord was gracious. He led many into the organization with their own
particular strength and expertise and we benefited from such fellowships.
FGB has come a long way since. For example, take a look at its spectacular
growth. It has become very professional and effective and yet I see the
Lord working in an exciting and marvellous way with the moving of His Holy
Spirit in the lives of FGB members and in the meetings they hold. Praise
the Lord for such anointing on the FGB!
Q: Would you say you
have attained utmost satisfaction when filled with the Holy Spirit?
I am sorry that when you
phrase the question like that, it gives the impression that I can make use
of God’s Holy Spirit. I don’t think so. The Holy Spirit is a “gentleman”.
He is our Helper and He would only do so if I or anyone else would allow
Him to move freely in our lives and co-operate with him. I believe He is
able to shape our character when we allow Him complete freedom. Oh, I am
so grateful for the Holy Spirit working in my life. Without His guidance,
without His help, I would not know where I would be today. Thank you Holy
Spirit for bearing with me. Incidentally it was at an FGB meeting where I
was baptised and filled with the Holy Spirit.
Q: You certainly have
fond memories of FGBMF Malaysia. Would you kindly share them with us?
Yes I do have many fond
memories of FGB. One of them was the prayer meetings we held. I enjoyed
them very much. In the presence of fellow brothers-in-Christ, we were able
to share our needs openly and as we cried out earnestly to the Lord, He
was gracious to answer us and many miracles were wrought. Did He not say,
‘Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall
glorify Me’ in Psalm 50: 15? And there were indeed great testimonies
glorifying the Lord.
Q: What are your views
on FGBMF’s progress over the recent years?
I must say that FGB’s
growth has been short of phenomenal. Meetings and banquets (using the
traditional meaning of the word which now includes simple meals in village
restaurants) are held frequently, spontaneously and almost everywhere. I
am so thrilled to hear of meetings taking place in small villages. This
shows the humility of our brothers, their earnestness and the extent they
would go to bring the Good News to everyone who wants to hear. I am full
of admiration for all that they are doing. I applaud you all. May the Lord
continue to bless each and everyone of you in your respective roles to
take the gospel to everyone.
Q: What is it that you
miss most on leaving FGBMF?
Without doubt, the warm and
congenial fellowship!
Q: Lastly, what would be
your passing words to the current FGBMF members?
Please continue to serve in
whatever way you can in the FGB. Contribute whatever you can. Support your
leaders. Pray for one another. Enjoy the fellowship. Learn from each
other. Encourage and bless your brother. You may lose valuable time in
your work but you have heard the oft-repeated words, “The Lord is no man’s
debtor.” Truly the Lord is wonderful! Bless His Holy Name!
Q: Your present role in
the Body of Christ?
I am a co-worker with Derek
Prince Ministries Asia Pacific. The mission statement of this ministry is
to “teach the untaught and reach the unreached.” It is a non-profit
organization. Our aim is to distribute Derek’s simple teaching (which
has been translated into over 60 languages) to thousands free of charge so
that they will be grounded in the Word and be able teach others. My role
in DPM is to assist in the publishing and radio broadcasting of Derek’s
books and messages in the region. I also help co-ordinate DPM work in
Malaysia and Indonesia. |
