Thank You, Amy and Sook Pei!
By Dr Stephen Goh
FGBMF
Malaysia opened its National Office in 1986 on the 4th floor of MUI Plaza. Dr J
S Devaraj, the first National Secretary had no helper for the first three years.
Now, FGBMF Malaysia has two full-time staff and we want to record our
appreciation to them.
Sis. Amy Beh who was trained as a
private secretary with computer skills and that was then a precious, uncommon
asset. As a three-year old believer who worships at PJEFC in 1989 and in a
comfortable secular job, her burning desire was to serve the Lord with her
administrative skills in a Christian organization. But she was aware that her
family, then non-believers would not approve and in her prayer asked for
confirmation.
Bro. Timothy Phua, then the
National Treasurer came to know of her desire and encouraged her to make an
application to FGBMF. Dr.Tong, Bro. Timothy Phua and Dr. Devaraj interviewed her
at the then Merlin Hotel before an FGB Banquet and she was recruited for the
ministry. Amy was surprised that from 1986 to 1989 Dr. Devaraj did his typing on
an old typewriter. She got the office running properly in quick time. And the
National Office has been running smoothly ever since under her able
administration.
In 1989 Bro. Lee Gee Koon and I
were invited to be observers at the Monday Board meeting. We have been part of
the National Board ever since. Amy and I worked closely after I became the
National Secretary in 2000 (after Dr. Devaraj had gone to be with the Lord). Dr.
Devaraj used to tell me that Amy was God-send and I understood what he meant
after having worked side by side with her. She is a faithful worker who is
selfless and is always there when the ministry needs her.
In October this year, Amy will
have completed 15 years of service at the National Office. I want to record the
FGBMF’s appreciation to her for giving the best of her working life to the
Lord in this ministry. Since 2000 Amy has been working under the National
President and my direction and I am truly thankful that she has been such a
dedicated staff member and a tremendous blessing to all of us in FGBMF.
All of us who have at one time or
another dealt with her would be familiar with her gentle calls and the
leadership knows that she can be trusted to get things done well and on time.
Praise the Lord that through her
testimony, her family, especially her father, came to accept the Lord on his
death bed. I pray that just as she stored up treasures in heaven, great rewards
will continue to be bestowed on her as she serves in God’s ministry.
Sis. Cheong Sook Pei joined the
National Office in November 2000 after the First Asian Chinese Convention to
assist Amy. She was a tremendous help during the 2nd Asian Chinese Convention
held in 2001. Her cheerful disposition and her willingness to undertake whatever
is asked of her adds to the feeling of “family” at the National Office. She
too wants to give her best to the Lord in this ministry. She works quietly and
harmoniously with Amy and is part of the welcome scene at the National Office.
Together with Amy, they form a bilingual team that is a tremendous blessing in
doing translation work for the growing Chinese FGBMF ministry. Sook Pei worships
at the Chinese Methodist Chapel in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang.
To Amy and Sook Pei, thanks for
your dedication all these years and may our Lord’s blessings be richly upon
you.
