Testimony - Jesus Won’t Reject Me!

Amy BehSince 1986, I had been praying for the salvation of my parents and siblings and their families but they were hindered by the thought that the Christian God is a ‘western god’. My dad had always commented that doing good works was good enough to go back to heaven after death.

On the evening of 13 January 2004, my dad experienced urinary and bowel complications and became weak. He was unable to eat and was groaning in fear. Later he was calmer but was not able to talk and could only stare at people around him. That night I called two FGB brothers to come to pray for my dad and one of them was able to speak in Teochew to him. With the consent of my family members, he prayed for dad and asked him whether he wanted to follow this Jesus and accept Him as his Saviour. Dad indicated he wanted to.

Things worsened later and it was as if my father was possessed by unclean spirits as he was very restless.

One of my dad’s last wishes was to celebrate the then coming Chinese New Year with us. God was gracious as he was able to sit up for the re-union dinner even though he was not able to eat any solid food.

On 29 January, dad requested us to bathe him, clean his mouth and dress him up. He was preparing for his death! Later, he went into a coma but woke up at noon time and told us that the journey for him (in his dream) was narrow and long with no kind soul to help him, only the evil ones who wanted to pull him downward though he refused to give in to them.

Next day, dad cried out for help and said he has been locked up by the evil ones in a case. I encouraged dad to call on Jesus in time of help and need. He repeated his call a few times while I prayed for God’s peace and presence to be real for him. Immediately after this, dad experienced God’s peace and was able to sleep peacefully for half an hour. When he woke up, the first thing he said was he saw a place has been prepared for him up there and that his sins had been forgiven. Later he confirmed that Jesus came to help him.

The next morning, January 31, he asked for a Chinese Bible and wanted us to move him to my second sister’s house in Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur. We moved him there immediately and got him the Bible he asked for. I read to him, John 3: 16, John 14:6 and John 1:12 and he nodded that he understood. Then I led him to say the salvation prayer and he confessed that Jesus Christ is his Lord and Saviour.

On February 1, about 5am, dad was restless and disturbed. I called my church elders to pray and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.” (James 5:14). With the consent of my family members, my church elder and his wife came to minister to him at 5.35 am. They re-assured my dad of his salvation in Christ, read God’s Word to him, prayed for God’s peace over him. After eighteen days without solid food, dad was still very alert and he could ask questions regarding his faith in Christ. He said he had rejected Christ before but now at this stage would Jesus reject him? My elder assured him that we all are saved by God’s grace and not by work. God loves my dad and would not reject him. Dad was very happy upon hearing this. He then asked to be baptized and this was done that very morning.

On February 2, my dad was admitted to the hospital for drip. He felt better and was able to drink through his mouth. Another church elder came to pray for him at the hospital and taught him to renounce his past form of worship which he then did. The elder also prayed for dad to be able to eat solid food. An hour later, my dad was able to eat porridge for the first time after 21 days! Dad was discharged from hospital on February 4.

On February 5, the last day of Chinese New Year, at about 7.15 pm, my dad smiled before he breathed his last. He slept like a baby and went home peacefully to be with God. He was 94 years old! Truly, it’s never too late to accept Jesus as our personal Saviour. Praise the Lord.
