An Interview...

Bro David OngThe FGBMF Malaysia has been the birthplace of many Christian leaders. Some of the FGBMF brothers are now serving in various leadership positions in churches and other ministries. One such person is Bro David Ong (a retired senior civil servant with the PM’s Dept.), who is now serving as a Director in Lifeline Ministries Malaysia. The FLAME interviewed Bro David Ong recently.

Q. Bro David, what led you to the FGBMF and how were you involved in it the early days?

A: I was introduced to the FGBMF in 1982 by Dr. Moses Lee, my family doctor, in a time of a family, marriage and personal spiritual crisis. I then was a back-slidden and nominal Christian.

When I was born-again thenafter and was fi lled with the Holy Spirit, I decided to be involved in the ministry of sharing the good news of the Gospel to men in the market place. Together with some brothers we established the Ipoh Road FGBMF chapter in August 1986.

Q. Can you compare the spiritual climate then and now?

A: God is gracious and loving. My early years in the FGBMF in the eighties were exciting times with manifestations of signs and wonders following the Word in the Peninsular and East Malaysia. I believe that today more than ever we need to cultivate a closer walk with Him. This is the age where we need to work closer with Holy Spirit. The Holy Bible says “. As many as are led by the Spirit of God.. they are the sons of God.”

Sonship to me means to be led by the Holy Spirit in this age Also I am firmly persuaded that this is the time we need to have not only the fruits of the Spirit but also the gifts to have the abundant life as promised by Jesus Christ. Both gifts and fruits are important to fulfil the great commission which is the ministry of every Christian.

Q. Would you say you have attained utmost satisfaction when filled with the Holy Spirit?

A: Definitely yes. For God has given me a spirit of love, of power and a sound mind. The Holy Spirit empowers me and the Holy Spirit points always to Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of my faith. Hallelujah ! Not by might, nor by power but by my Spirit says the Lord God of hosts! I would like to say that I am focussed on Jesus Christ. Without His finished work on the cross I would have nothing.

Q. You certainly have fond memories of FGBMF Malaysia. Would you kindly share them with us?

A: In the FGBMF, I was greatly blessed. I am thankful to the Lord for my involvement in the FGBMF over the years. I have learnt much in the FGBMF, grown in the things of God and in my faith. I have sat at the feet of God fearing leaders and learned to live not as “of the world but in the world”.

I had the opportunity to serve and participate in the staging of the 5th Asian FGBMF Convention in KL, the Derek Prince Seminar, the Reinhard Bonkke Rally, Come Celebrate Praise and Worship at the Dataran Merdeka, etc. to the Glory of God! I praise and thank the Lord for the exposure and experience to serve.

Q. What are your views on FGBMF’s progress over the recent years?

A: The FGBMF certainly has achieved much over the years with its ministry to men in the market place. Personally I feel that every ministry needs to be in constant touch with the CEO of the organisation, Jesus Christ of Nazareth through the Holy Spirit.

We are first and foremost in the kingdom business and need to take instructions from the Chairmen and CEO. Time spent with the Lord enhances effectiveness of activities. Our “warfare” in the market place is not carnal but spiritual. Things happen in the spiritual and then manifest in the natural. Jesus Christ is our focus first, last and always!

Q. What is it that you miss most ever since you became less active in FGBMF?

A: The frequent time of fellowship with FGBMF members though I am still in touch with some of them. I always rejoice when they share the things of God in the market place. I always uphold the FGBMF in prayer for its ministry among men everywhere. I thank God for the ministry of the FGBMF. The “dying world” out there needs it more than ever today.

Q. Please share with us your current ministry?

A: I am currently serving in my local church (RLC) as a teacher in the home cell. I am also involved in a para-church organisation, Lifeline Ministries Malaysia, which emphasis on teaching the foundations of faith among Christians and a Word-based victorious and fruitful Christian life. Indeed we are saved to serve and blessed to be a blessing.

Q. Lastly, what would be your passing words to the current FGBMF members?

A: Have daily quality time with the Lord. Make Jesus Christ the primary focus of your life. He is after all the Lord of all, otherwise He is not Lord at all! Rejoice in the Lord always ! Phil. 4: 4-8. In rejoicing we learn to rest in Him. Let go and let God.
