That was the underlying message which
rang distinctly across to the 600-strong
people who had packed the banquet hall
of One-Bangsar Seafood Garden
Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur on 2
September, 2007, as they dined and
listened to Gurmit Singh a.k.a Phua Chu
Kang at an FGB
Central Region function.
The sitcom Singapore television comedian
took center-stage, smartly clad in a
Sunday-best grey suit to bear witness to
the audience of the all-engulfing love
and awesome glory of Jesus Christ in his
life.
He started off on a vibrant note
declaring his stand for Jesus and to
mesmerize the crowd with a heart-warming
rendition of ‘This Is A Song ...’ that
truly convinced every one that this
servant of the Lord, besides his acting
skills was blessed with the gift of
singing as well.
Having established an affinity with the
full-capacity audience, Gurmit proceeded
with his testimony of the love, power
and majesty of the Almighty God and
Saviour Jesus Christ. Without mincing
his words, the Holy Spirit impacted him
to tell how he came to the Lord in 1985
at a Reihard Bonke’s healing rally in
Singapore. He also related how his stage
four cancer-stricken mother was
delivered from a six-month death
sentence prophesied by a local doctor to
a sixteen-year extension of healthy life
from the healer Jesus Christ. Alleluia!
‘ASK and ye shall receive...’ (Mat.
7:7) was the mustard seed faith
that this young lad of nineteen had when
he earnestly implored the Lord to let
his mother live long enough to see her
grandchildren. At the material time
Gurmit was a bachelor with yet a
girlfriend in the horizon. God, from His
inner temple, heard him and answered his
request. Sixteen years later, Gurmit’s
mother, after having seen her
grandchildren, left for her heavenly
abode.
Gurmit Singh, standing by the Grace of
God, also mentioned how in his walk as a
Christian, he had reserved Sunday solely
for work of the Lord: church, charity
and family and not for earning money.
