Dr Kuan Kim Hock aged 65 years, our Deputy Director for the Southern Region, was called home to the Lord 12th June 2009 in Brisbane, Australia some eight months after his bone marrow transplant for a rare blood disorder on 17th October 2008. His condition was first diagnosed in early 1997 as myeloproliferative blood disorder which over the years had developed into myelofibrosis. His remains were brought back to Malacca for wake services at his home and he was finally laid to rest 27th June 2009.

While we offer our condolences to his wife, Evelyn, and his son, Kelvin, and daughter-in-law, Huey Yee, and the two young grandchildren Kelly and Kaleb, we are also thankful to God that our late brother has now entered into eternal bliss with our Lord Jesus Christ after a very fruitful life of faithfully serving the Lord in the FGBMF. Dr Kuan accepted Jesus into his life at the first ever public meeting of the FGBMF in Malacca launched on 7th November 1981 at the residence of our first Chapter President, Dr Eddy Cheong. Kuan subsequently also joined the FGBMF.

Until that life-changing encounter with our Lord, he was a man fully into the world and who had pursued after all the worldly pleasures. But since then, he rapidly grew to be very passionate for God and had lived a Christ-centered life with a Christlike compassion for those still lost in the world. He was by nature also a very caring person. Tributes have been paid of him giving cash to his patients in financial need instead of charging them!

Both in life and in death, Kuan was truly passionate for the gospel. Long before his home-going, he had shared his wish with his family that his own wake service be a means of evangelism and for the FGBMF to conduct one of the services. In fulfillment of that wish, the family had fixed for each evening service to be conducted in a different language with the English service slotted for the final evening before funeral the next day. And the FGBMF was tasked with conducting the English service.

As it turned out, it was befitting that the final evening memorial service be conducted by the FGBMF as a closure to Kuan’s earthly life for it was at the first ever public meeting of the FGBMF in Malacca that the late Dr Kuan started his life with the Lord. Sis Evelyn later said that this closure by the FGBMF was not in her mind at the time the family decided on the sequence of the languages to be used for the wake services. Glory be to God!
